These are the records collected by the census marshals as they gathered the data from 1820 thru 1870. The censuses of enslaved people in 1850 and 1860 are separated from the censuses of the free population. The original files of scanned microfilm are located in the Internet Archive. 1840 Gwinnett Population – from National Archives microfilm series M704, reel 42, frames 127-233 The 1840 and earlier censuses combines free and slave populations into a single tabulation, but gives much less detail. The second page of each 2-page sheet contains the tabulation of enslaved people for each household.
